Poul Rodou is a small north-facing beach on the Guimaëc side of Locquirec, below rocky cliffs that run towards the Pointe du Corbeau. A south-westerly wind blows offshore here and keeps it clean. It needs a large swell to wrap in, usually in winter, and then gives soft high-tide lefts and rights that suit a longboard.

Local tips

Aim for the hours around high tide. It is a good choice when a south-westerly wind is blowing out the more west-facing beaches. Mind the rocks along the cliffs.

Getting there

Take the Route de Poul Rodou off the coast road near Locquirec; it is a short walk from the road down to the beach.

Travel notes

How often it works
Surf-forecast calls it fairly consistent outside summer, when it is mostly flat. It faces north-north-east, so north-westerly swell bends into the bay while south-westerly winds stay off it. It often works when the west-facing beaches are ruined by wind.
Crowd and vibe
Little is written about crowds here. It is a short walk from the road, away from the village. It draws fewer surfers than Pors ar Villec, the town's busiest spot. Summer weekends and school holidays are the busiest times.
Camping and vans
The closest campsite open to everyone is the municipal Camping du Fond de la Baie on the route de Plestin. It is about 4 km away in a straight line. It is open all year with 244 pitches, direct beach access and a motorhome area with its own pitches. Nearest campsite about 4 km away.
Facilities
A bare beach with summer lifeguards but no toilets, showers or drinking water. The nearest surf school, Surfing Locquirec, is about 2 km east at Moulin de la Rive.
Water quality
Rated Excellent in the official 2025 bathing-water ranking. Four late-summer tests in 2025 came back medium.
