Pantín, in Valdoviño, is one of the most famous surf beaches in Spain and home of the Pantín Classic. It is a horseshoe of nearly 1 km of white sand and dunes, open to swell from almost every direction. People call it Galicia's wave factory, and it is the most visited surf beach in the region. It is very consistent and works from about half a metre to well over 3 m. Many peaks break left and right; the best are towards the north-eastern end, with a channel along the rocks, and the lefts there are often the longest and strongest.

When it works

✓ A north to north-west swell of 1 to 2.5 m, best on the push to mid tide, with a south to south-east wind (south-west also works).

When it doesn't

✕ North or west wind, which makes the waves dump, and busy summer weekends, when the main peaks are crowded.

Watch out for

  • rips
  • crowds
  • currents

Best months

January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December

Local tips

Spread out along the beach instead of joining the main peak. High tide gives longer, softer waves; low tide gives faster, shorter ones. A rip on the right side can carry you out towards the bigger sets. Currents get strong on spring tides.

Getting there

Off the C-646 coast road near Pantín village. There is parking, accessible paths, lifeguards, showers, toilets, a picnic area, beach bars and a bus stop.

History

The Pantín Classic has been held here at the end of summer since the late 1980s. That makes it one of the oldest surf contests still running.

Travel notes

How often it works
A swell magnet and probably the most consistent beach in the region. It is open to swell from almost every direction and works from half a metre up.
Crowd and vibe
Often crowded, especially at weekends, in summer and around the Pantín Classic in late summer. Weekdays can be quiet. The main peaks are full of good surfers, so spread out along the beach.
Camping and vans
No campsite by the beach. The nearest are Camping Valdoviño, about 4.5 km south-west, and Camping A Lagoa at A Frouxeira. The A Frouxeira Camper Park in Valdoviño takes autocaravanas. Nearest campsite about 4.5 km away.
Facilities
Parking, toilets, showers, lifeguards, beach bars and a bus stop, and Valdoviño has several surf schools and surf camps.
Water quality
The council monitors the water, but we found no published rating and it is not on the 2026 Blue Flag list.
