A Frouxeira is a 3 km beach of white sand in Valdoviño. Dunes and the Frouxeira lagoon (also called the Valdoviño lagoon) lie behind it; the lagoon is a protected wetland. Peaks break both ways all along it, it works in small swells, and the wave size changes along its length. The eastern end, by the Percebelleira rocks, has a good right at higher tide. The middle is the usual choice, and the western end below the lighthouse handles very big swells at low tide. The beach is so long that it stays relaxed even in high season.

Local tips

As the swell builds past about 2 m, the rips get dangerous, especially at the north end. When the rest of the coast is too big, the end by the Frouxeira lighthouse can still be surfable at low tide. The local crew is fairly strong, so share waves.

Getting there

Several access points from Valdoviño. There is parking, lifeguards, showers, toilets, beach bars, a campsite, and a viewpoint car park on the lighthouse road.

Travel notes

How often it works
Consistent: it works in small swells, and with 3.5 km of beach there is almost always a peak somewhere. When the coast is too big, the lighthouse end can still be surfed.
Crowd and vibe
Busy on good days, but the long beach spreads people out, so it rarely feels packed. Surf schools can crowd one section in summer. The local community is fairly strong, so share waves.
Camping and vans
Camping A Lagoa is on the promenade a few metres from the sand. Camping Valdoviño is about 0.5 km away. The A Frouxeira Camper Park, looking over the lagoon, takes autocaravanas. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
Facilities
Parking, toilets, showers, lifeguards, beach bars and cafés, and a bus stop.
Water quality
The council monitors the water, but we found no published rating and it is not on the 2026 Blue Flag list.
