Rodiles beach is a kilometre of fine sand east of the Villaviciosa river mouth, backed by a eucalyptus wood. It sits inside the Ría de Villaviciosa nature reserve. Away from the famous river-mouth left, it is a mellow, fairly exposed beach break. Its shifting peaks tend to favour rights and work best at high tide. It suits learners, longboarders and anyone avoiding the crowd at the bar, and it gets busy in summer.

Local tips
At high tide, when the river-mouth left is off, the east end of the beach is the place to go. In summer it can be dangerously crowded, so give lessons and swimmers plenty of room.
Getting there
The entrance is signposted from the Villaviciosa area. There is a large car park, a picnic area under the eucalyptus, toilets, showers, a kiosk, restaurants and summer lifeguards. Boardwalks cross the dunes.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Fairly consistent. The beach is open to north-west groundswell and works often from autumn to spring.
- Crowd and vibe
- Often crowded, and in summer it can get busy enough to be dangerous. Lessons, longboarders and swimmers all share the water, so give everyone room.

- Three small campsites sit near the beach in Seloriu: Camping Playa de Rodiles – Fin de Siglo, Camping Nery and Camping La Ensenada, all within about a kilometre. Camping Villaviciosa at La Rasa, about 4.5 km away, closes only in December and January. Vans can use the free área de autocaravanas in Villaviciosa town (8 places, 24 hours).
