Izaro island lies offshore between Bermeo and Mundaka, inside the Urdaibai reserve, and on rare days it has one of the most extreme waves in the Basque Country. Off the western point a huge right can exceed ten metres in a big west-north-west swell, with a very long take-off that is only possible by towing in. Further round, on the south side, a second powerful right with hollow sections reaches about four metres. Lining up is hard because of the currents and the nearby rocks.
