Laida is a beach of almost half a kilometre in Ibarrangelu, at the mouth of the Oka estuary, right across the water from Mundaka. The sand changes shape with every tide, and at low water a wide flat opens up that you can walk out into the estuary. Peaks in both directions break on sand, usually long, gentle and slow. That makes it a good place for learners, longboarders and surf schools.

Local tips

The river mouth creates strong currents, so stay aware of drift and avoid the channel. On big days the tail end of the Mundaka sets can reach here. It is rarely crowded.

Getting there

There is a good car park, plus showers, toilets and lifeguards in summer, and bars and restaurants close by.
